The U.S. Coast Guard Forest Rescue

Frightening footage. A Coast Guard helo pilot and crew perform a daring rescue of a injured teenager from a riverbed. The kids were partying in the Santa Cruz Mountains, in Santa Cruz County, Calif., One was seriously injured when he jumped off rocks into shallow water. The U.S. Coast Guard is called in when it is learned an Air Force Rescue unit is too far away to help. It's an extremely rare event, captured by Bay NewsVideo, as the Coast Guard usually does not attempt rescues over land without encountering bureaucratic red tape. The pilot must descend and hover for more than 45 minutes within 10 feet of towering redwood trees. The rescuers must lower a cable and pluck the victim out while firefighters must enter the area first by train, then by foot. The victim survives. The U.S. Coast Guard had a "helocam" also rolling on the rescue. Great stuff. Scary flying.
