LAS VEGAS – The Frontier is down! Down goes the Frontier, down goes the Frontier...
The well-executed implosion was conducted November 13, 2006, 2:36 a.m. by Clauss Construction of Lakeside, Calif.
BayNewsVideo provided documentation and video support that included video coverage and video news releases for Las Vegas and San Diego media.
New York-based Elad Group bought the property in May for $1.2 billion and closed it July 16. The development group plans to build a $5 billion mixed-use project modeled after New York's Plaza Hotel on the 34.5-acre site.
Plans for the implosion and demolition were managed by Clauss. Phoenix, Md.-based Controlled Demolition was retained by Clauss to handle the explosives work.
Approximately 900 to 1,000 pounds of dynamite was used to level the main building.
Clauss Construction manages projects throughout the western region. Its last San Diego implosion was the 92-year-old Hotel San Diego. It was demolished at 8:05 a.m. April 15, 2006. As in the case of the Frontier, workers drilled hundreds of holes in the structure and stuffed them with hundreds of pounds of explosives to initiate the implosion
Clauss Construction performed that work under a $3 million demolition contract awarded by the federal General Services administration.
