BayNewsVideo has completed production of a 1/2 hour documentary on DVD about the life and times of Herbert Branch Turner, noted architect, artist, and businessman.
In the segment excerpt displayed above, Mr. Turner recalls his early days from birth in the Depression era to his time as a cadet at West Point.
The West Point years were formative ones for Mr. Turner, reinforcing the notion of hard work and self-discipline. Such traits proved to be an excellent preparation for his later adult life as an accomplished artist, sculptor and architect.
An apprentice of John Lloyd Wright, his Southern California homes and business designs are noted for their understated motifs, which effortlessly blend with the natural landscape.
The decision to seek an apprenticeship with Mr. Wright, son of famed architect John Lloyd Wright, brought him to the Southern California coastal town of Del Mar.
Turner's single-minded pursuit of excellence in this association with Mr. Wright assisted greatly in charting the remainder of his working life.
Later portions of the documentary focus on Mr. Turner's apprenticeship, his contemporary architectual designs, artistic pursuits and role in influencing the understated developmental aspects of Del Mar.
Release of the documentary was scheduled to coincide with the publication of a biography of Mr. Turner by Michael Gosney, entitled "The Art and Architecture of Herbert B. Turner: A Creative Odyssey".
The book, published by Cardiff-based Waterside Press, is currently available for sale at various sites on the Internet's World Wide Web.
BayNewsVideo premiered the documentary at a release reception in Del Mar for the book set April 19.
