
BayNewsVideo assisted recently in coverage in the case of a deputy whose patrol car was rammed twice by a truck in Vista. The incident began around 3 a.m., when the deputy pulled over a Dodge pickup Monte Vista Drive near Lindy Lane, Sheriff's Sgt. Karen Stubekjaer said in an interview at the scene.
While the deputy questioned the driver outside, one of two passengers remaining in the pickup moved into the
driver's seat and sped off.
The deputy followed in his patrol car and the chase ended in a cul de sac a short distance away, Stubekjaer said.
In the cul de sac, the suspect intentionally rammed the patrol car twice, eventually pinning the
deputy in the car, authorities said.
As reported on SignOnSanDiego by the Union-Tribune's breaking news team, the original driver, who had been pulled over for an "obscured license plate" remained at the original scene of the stop and was not charged.
The deputy was pinned inside his patrol car when its airbag deployed, the Union-Tribune said.
A canine inside the deputy's car was unhurt, Stubekjaer said, while the U-T reported the deputy was treated at a local hospital and released.
