WATSONVILLE MURDER:
WATSONVILLE, CALIF.- Santa Cruz County authorities investigating a murder released a composite drawing and photographs of similar cars they suspect are connected to the case. Sheriff's detectives believe widespread dissemination of the materials will help them solve the Monday, Aug. 24 murder of Alijandro Lopez, 19. He was shot and killed in a church parking lot off state highway 152. Bay NewsVideo dispatched a crew to the Santa Cruz County Sheriffs Records Division as soon as the drawing and photos were available. Local stations had been faxed the photos, but they were not broadcast quality. Bay NewsVideo was able to provide clean video of the wanted poster in time for an 11pm newscast and the morning news programs for 3 member stations.
Bay NewsVideo was the first to provide videotape from the scene and the only provider of on-camera information from officials at the time. BNV's assignment desk caught the call and BNV's member stations ran the story as the lead on their morning newscasts. At last report, no arrests had been made.
